Couple of other thoughts on Cole:

- He had a triple double in the NCAA tournament, something that Greg Ostertag never got close to accomplishing. He's more mobile that O ever was, and has a great "motor."

- He's got good hands, which is why I think he can be a 14 ppg player for the Thunder through put-backs, alley-oops, and dumpoff passes from drives by Westbrook.

- As Owen mentioned, his Sophomore year development was crazy, but slowed a bit his Junior year. He did go through a lot of off-the-court issues last year at KU (a longtime illness that zapped his stamina and dealing with the death of his grandmother, who he was very close with). So it's possible with that stuff cleared up he could develop more going forward.

- I would put his floor at Greg Ostertag, with a ceiling of maybe Pryzbilla or Kaman. A pretty great pickup for the Thunder.

Thanks for listening,

Sounds like you've watched some Jayhawk/Aldrich basketball! Good thoughts. If he can be a 14ppg guy we will be a pretty scary team (especially if as you say, the offense doesn't have to run through him). Hope you're right about his ceiling/basement. If we can get a Pryzbilla or Kaman type without the injuries... watch out!

Good point above regarding Cole and his stamina issues this year.

He definitely seemed to labor at times and as mentioned it is fairly well documented that it was related to an nagging illness. That said, he's always had that issue to some degree.

If he can get his conditioning where it needs to be, which I think he can, the post above is probably pretty accurate in saying his floor would be that of Ostertag.

Cole DEFINITELY has better hands and tends to be more active under the basket than Ostertag ever was.

@Owen,

You say that this has always been an issue. What kind of illness are we talking about?

Brad,

There was an article in Decemberish last year talking about Cole, his asthma and last year a bout of bronchitis that magnified those issues for him.

He manages it well when healthy, but last year between the bronchitis and his day to day asthma he would seem gassed much sooner.

That said, he never made an excuse. Eventually Coach Self came out and said something because Cole was catching some criticism for it.
